Gameweek 2 of the 2014-2015 Premier League season was full of action, goals and drama. With some very close-fought battles and some hard earned points, the games showed that the Premier League is one of the toughest and most competitive leagues around. There were a few upsets along the way as well, but fantasy football players will have generally been happy with the players who scored and the majority of results.
It was looking unlikely for Arsenal as they faced off against a strong Everton team at home. The home team took the lead with two players, who were no doubt big features and popular choices for many people’s fantasy league teams. Seamus Coleman scored the first of their two goals, who is a top choice for a defender. He is a good choice because not only are Everton very financially sturdy most of the time, which means plenty of clean sheets, he is also scores a lot of goals for a defender. He was the highest scoring defender last season and the marauding full back appears to be picking up where he left off. Top striker, Romelu Lukaku was also involved in the build up to the second, he gained a valuable assist and looked to be on top form, a hot pick for next week.
When Arsenal came back, it was the hot pick of Aaron Ramsey who was one of the leading players in fantasy football last season who bagged the first goal, while Olivier Giroud, perhaps a more obscure pick for your fantasy team bagged the second. Popular choices, Ozil and Sanchez played poorly which could have affected many peoples fantasy teams.
Tottenham Hotspur romped home to a 4-0 win on Harry Redknapp’s return to white hart lane. Spurs under performed massively last season which saw many peoples fantasy teams suffer. Erik Lamela was in great form and although he didn’t score, he looks good for weeks to come. Christian Eriksen has looked good in pre-season and is a feature on many fantasy teams. Although, he didn’t score, he again looks like he will come good throughout the duration of the season.
Perhaps the most disappointing game of the week was Manchester United Vs. Sunderland. A response after the opening season defeat was expected, but a poor performance only got them a draw. Juan Mata got a goal and he looks to be coming into his own in a Manchester United shirt. Jack Rodwell, a player almost lost in recent years also got a goal, he looks like he could do well this season at Sunderland.
The biggest game of the week, Manchester City Vs. Liverpool was full of excitement as City won 3-1. Despite only coming on as a substitute, Sergio Aguero scored his third of the season. He is an obvious choice for anybody looking for a world class striker after recent yars. Jovetic managed to get two goals, a rather unexpected player seems to have emerged, Jovetic could be worth putting in your team as he looks to be finding his feet at city in his second season with the club. Raheem Sterling looked sharp in the defeat.
In other news, Swansea continued to impress as they won, Sigurdsson looked particularly impressive, yet again. Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard look set to do well, they were in great form in Chelsea’s win.
