X Y Jet looks to rebound in DeFrancis Dash

Laurel Park is the site for the Grade III, $250,000 DeFrancis Dash, a six-furlong event on the main track. A field of nine goes postward for the ninth race of the day at approximately 3:35 p.m. EST. Be sure to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

#8 X Y JET is the 9-5 favorite with Emisael Jaramillo shipping in to ride. X Y JET faded late after setting supersonic fractions off a seven-month layoff in the Vosburgh last time out, an effort that can easily be excused. The DeFrancis Dash is a significantly easier spot for him, and he has a major tactical advantage. X Y JET is clearly faster than these on paper and no one can run with him early, so he is the pick with great confidence.

#9 STALLWALKIN’ DUDE (5-2) has demonstrated a powerful closing kick in his last few starts on the NYRA circuit. He’s picked up checks with regularity and won his last start in the Bold Ruler Stakes. STALLWALKIN’ DUDE could only manage fourth in this race last year but he did not get a favorable trip that day. Joe Bravo will be aboard this 16-time winner.

#5 LIFE IN SHAMBLES (8-1) will try to make this race interesting from a betting standpoint. He’ll lose Javier Castellano today due to the jockey’s commitments at Delta Downs on Saturday, but he’ll pick up Ricardo Santana Jr. in Castellano’s stead. His last two races at this surface and distance were competitive in the speed figure department, but he’ll have to prove that he can run with stakes-caliber foes. He’s been unsuccessful so far (0-for-3).

#2 IVAN FALLUNOVALOT (5-1) ships up from Remington Park for his shot at big stakes money. He’s won five of his last six races, with his lone off-the-board finish coming in the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Injuries sidelined him for a significant part of this year, but IVAN FALLUNOVALOT is still finding the wire first. However, the waters get deeper for him today and his speed figures aren’t at the same level they were in 2015. Calvin Borel does see fit to come in and ride him though. He’ll be a saver for me.

The play: $6 trifecta 8/9/5, $4 trifecta 8/9/2 ($10)

DFJ analysis: Joe Bravo ($7,500) only has five mounts on this 11-race card, but they are some quality horses. In addition to STALLWALKIN’ DUDE in the DeFrancis Dash, he rides favored Malibu Stacy in the Safely Kept Stakes. Bravo also has the call on live longshots Ami’s Holiday (8-1 in the Richard W. Small Stakes) and Clear The Mine (12-1 in the City of Laurel Stakes) then concludes his day in the 10th race with Late Night Mark (7-2).
