A trio of graded stakes awaits us at Gulfstream Park this Saturday! The Grade II Ft. Lauderdale for older turf horses anchors the action, followed by the Grade III Hal’s Hope for older horses on dirt and the Grade III Marshua’s River for turf fillies and mares earlier in the day. With 12 races on the card at Gulfstream and several of the nation’s top riders there, careful attention must be paid to these heats if you’re playing FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!
Gulfstream Race 6
The Grade III Marshua’s River Stakes
Todd Pletcher, Gulfstream’s leading trainer, has the top two wagering choices in #7 ISABELLA SINGS (9-5) and #3 SANDIVA (3-1). My preference is with the latter, who has the rider advantage (Javier Castellano over Edgard Zayas). SANDIVA also loves this course (6-3-2-1, and she won this race last year) and should work out a good stalking trip off the speed of ISABELLA SINGS.
The play: $8 exacta 3/7, $4 exacta 7/3 ($12)
Gulfstream Race 10
The Grade II Ft. Lauderdale Stakes
#1 HEART TO HEART (3-1) seeks to run his record at Gulfstream Park to 4-for-4 under Julien Leparoux. He should have mild pressure early from #3 DIAMOND BACHELOR, #5 ROSE BRIER and possibly #11 MACAGONE, but he should make a clear lead from the inside post. Unless they force him to fly early, HEART TO HEART should flaunt his class and notch another graded stakes win.
#10 JAY GATSBY (5-1) and Luis Saez should be rolling late. A stumbling start took him out of his element last time but prior to that he reeled off three straight runner-up finishes in stakes races. He also owns two ITM finishes at Gulfstream in three tries.
The play: $6 exacta 1/10, $2 exacta 10/1 ($8)
Gulfstream Race 11
The Grade III Hal’s Hope Stakes
#4 REALM (3-1) was Paco Lopez’ choice and will be mine as well. REALM’s stakes debut in the Cigar Mile was a decent one, as he checked in third at 17-1. Prior to that he was a romping allowance winner at Aqueduct. Currently in peak form for Barclay Tagg, REALM will be hard to hold off in the stretch.
#8 MR. JORDAN (5-2) exits back-to-back multi-length victories at Parx and Gulfstream Park West. He likes to stalk the pace but might possess the most natural early speed of any in this heat. From this post, he’d be best served trying to stay just off the early lead under Joe Bravo.
The play: $6 exacta 4/8, $4 exacta 8/4 ($10)
DFJ analysis: Javier Castellano ($11,000) is an obvious choice, as six of his seven mounts on the card are 5-1 or below in odds, but if you’re looking for a bit of a bargain you might want to consider Luis Saez ($9,500).
Saez has nine mounts on Saturday and rides three favorites. He also has a good chance to hit the board in the Ft. Lauderdale Stakes with JAY GATSBY.
