Sistercharlie brings solid French form to Belmont Oaks

The 1 1/4-mile Belmont Oaks is part of a tremendous 11-race card at Belmont Park this Saturday. The $1 million turf heat drew a field of 12 fillies in pursuit of Grade I glory. It goes as the eighth race of the day; approximate post time is 5:46 p.m. EST. Preeminent turf trainer Chad Brown has four runners, including the probable top two in the wagering market. In addition to watching and wagering, feel free to try out FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

#12 SISTERCHARLIE (5-2, morning-line favorite) drew poorly for her stateside debut but it may not matter. She’s been out of the exacta only once in five starts (two stakes) while racing in France. She has a Group III win under her belt and a rough-trip second in the Group I Prix de Diane. John Velazquez sees fit to climb aboard SISTERCHARLIE for Chad Brown.

#8 NEW MONEY HONEY (7-2) was last seen scoring in the Grade III Wonder Again, the local Belmont Oaks prep. The reigning Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner has three stakes victories in her last four starts. Once again, Javier Castellano has the call on Brown’s versatile Medaglia d’Oro filly.

#2 BEAU RECALL (15-1) doesn’t have a stakes victory to her credit yet, but she’s been chasing a solid filly in Sircat Sally at Santa Anita. Settling for second in three straight stakes is nothing to be ashamed of, and she was gaining late when stretching out from a mile to 1 1/8-miles last time out. This late closer could improve while adding distance, and she gets a solid rider change to Flavien Prat. The 15-1 odds are very appetizing.

The play: $5 exacta 12/2,8 ($10)

DFJ analysis: John Velazquez has a live mount in all ten races he’s entered in on Saturday. That includes his five stakes mounts, two of which are favored (Battalion Runner at 6-5 in the Dwyer and SISTERCHARLIE at 5-2 in the Belmont Oaks). He also has Awesome Slew (5-1) in the Belmont Sprint, Follow Me Crev (8-1) in the Suburban, and Yoshida (6-1) in the Belmont Derby.

Joel Rosario has nine mounts in total this Saturday. He’s aboard Practical Joke (7-5) in the Dwyer and Mind Your Biscuits (9-5) in the Belmont Sprint, and Good Samaritan (12-1) represents a live longshot opportunity in the Belmont Derby. Rosario also has two solid non-stakes mounts; Ten Penny Princess and Whatawonderflworld in Races 4 and 5, respectively.
