It Tiz Well should overwhelm the field in the Delaware Oaks

Six fillies will line up to contest the Grade III, $300,000 Delaware Oaks this Saturday at Delaware Park. The 1 1/16th-mile dirt event is the finale on an 11-race card chock-full of stakes events. Approximate post time is 6:35 p.m. EST. As always, be sure to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

#3 IT TIZ WELL (8-5, morning-line favorite) ships in from California off a troubled fifth in the Grade II Summertime Oaks. Prior to that she was a well-beaten third in the Grade I Santa Anita Oaks. IT TIZ WELL lands in a softer spot today and faces just five others, and she’s already proved she can run well away from home. Her career highlight so far was a win in the Grade III Honeybee at Oaklawn last March. #1 YOU KNOW TOO and #2 PROUD AND FEARLESS should be mixing it up early, which will give IT TIZ WELL a target or two to run at. She’s the pick as she gets Drayden Van Dyke in the irons for Jerry Hollendorfer.

PROUD AND FEARLESS (8-1) has won three straight, stepping up in class each time for Delaware mainstay J. Larry Jones. She crushed a field of overmatched foes at this course last time out, and will be asked to go just a bit further today. The works are sharp and she lures Brian Pedroza (25% at Delaware).

#5 BERNED (9-2) steps up off an easy score in her seasonal debut last month at Monmouth. The $550k daughter of Bernardini has clearly improved under Graham Motion’s tutelage, but she might be biting off a bit more than she can chew today. An underneath finish seems more likely than a victory.

#6 ACTRESS (5-2) is one of only two in here with a stakes win (the other being IT TIZ WELL). However, the Black-Eyed Susan did not look like a strong race, as evidenced by the uninspiring runs of Lights of Medina and Moana in the Mother Goose last week. There’s also the fact that ACTRESS was able to break her maiden in that Grade II heat. She’s a cut below these in the speed figure department as well.

The play: $4 exacta 3/2,5, $2 exacta 3/2 ($10)

DFJ analysis: With Nik Juarez and Joe Bravo riding at Delaware, Eddie Castro stands to benefit at Monmouth this Saturday. He has the call on five favorites while riding in nine of the 11 scheduled races at the Oceanport oval.
