Santa Anita “Win & You’re In Day” selections, jockey analysis

Santa Anita Park plays host to five Grade I stakes on Saturday, all of which are Breeders’ Cup “Win & You’re In” events. We’ll go over a couple of those races here. Don’t forget to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

Santa Anita Race 9

The Grade I $300,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes

The Rodeo Drive serves as a Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf prep, with the winner earning an automatic berth.

#10 GOODYEARFORROSES (5-2, morning-line favorite) was last seen running second in the Grade II John C. Mabee at Del Mar. She drew poorly in that heat and did so here too but runs second off a layoff this Saturday. She won a pair of stakes over this course earlier in the year and was a creditable second to Lady Eli in the Gamely. Corey Nakatani will be in the irons.

#7 BEAU RECALL (8-1) was a nose short of victory in the Grade I Del Mar Oaks despite breaking from post 11. She moves in a few stalls for her first try against older, which will help her cause, likewise the jockey switch to Rafael Bejarano.

#3 RESPONSIBLEFORLOVE (6-1) was Joe Talamo’s choice over BEAU RECALL. He teamed up with RESPONSIBLEFORLOVE for a minor stakes score at Del Mar last time out going 1 3/8-miles. She’ll be churning on while others fade in this 1 1/4-mile test.

The play: $3 exacta box 7/10, $2 exacta 7,10/3 ($10)

Santa Anita Race 10

The Grade I $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes

The Awesome Again will provide the winner an automatic berth into the all-important $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.

#4 CURLIN RULES (6-1) has steadily improved since switching to Flavien Prat this year and nearly upset #8 CUPID in August’s Brubaker Stakes at Del Mar. He was closing the gap late in that one-mile heat and galloped out in front of CUPID. It’s possible he’ll turn the tables at today’s 1 1/8-mile distance. Prat should be able to work out a great stalking trip off #3 MIDNIGHT STORM and turn back CUPID late.

CUPID (2-1, morning-line favorite) went three-wide on both turns in the Brubaker and won anyway. He should appreciate getting back to Santa Anita, where he was last seen crushing his foes in the Santa Anita Gold Cup. Bejarano maintains the mount for Bob Baffert.

The play: $4 exacta box 4/8 ($8)

DFJ analysis: Rafael Bejarano has nine mounts on Saturday, five of which are in stakes. CUPID gives him his best shot of all in the Awesome Again. He also rides Grade I FrontRunner second-choice Zatter, as well as Grade I Zenyatta second-choice Faithfully. BEAU RECALL represents a live longshot for Bejarano in the Rodeo Drive.
