Miss Temple City looks for second straight Shadwell Turf Mile

The Grade I, $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile is the feature race this Saturday at Keeneland. The logical stepping stone toward the Breeders’ Cup Mile drew a full field of 14. The Shadwell Turf Mile goes as Race 9 on a 10-race card, with post time scheduled for 5:45 p.m. EST. As always, be sure to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

#8 MISS TEMPLE CITY (3-1, morning-line favorite) aims for her third victory over the boys at Keeneland in the Shadwell Turf Mile as well as her second straight victory in this race. She’s had a rocky 2017 campaign, faltering late at Ascot off a six-month break before coming up short off a tough trip at Monmouth in the Grade III Matchmaker. She had to grind out a win at Kentucky Downs in the Grade III Ladies Turf when last seen; perhaps she didn’t care for the course. This is a tough spot but MISS TEMPLE CITY is capable of handling this group with her best stuff. She should get a good tactical setup stalking confirmed frontrunner #10 HEART TO HEART. Edgar Prado will ride for Graham Motion.

#3 SUEDOIS (15-1) is an intriguing international invader. He took a one-mile Group II in his most recent start, snapping a long losing streak in the process. Usually prominent in turf sprints, SUEDOIS was able to relax off the pace in that heat and strike late. A similar approach could pay big dividends this Saturday. Daniel Tudhope will fly in for the assignment.

#10 HEART TO HEART (7-2) should flash his customary early speed in order to clear from this wide post. He’ll likely face pressure early from MISS TEMPLE CITY and SUEDOIS, among others in this 14-horse field, which could be his undoing. HEART TO HEART’s record at Keeneland (4-1-2-0) suggests that a win wager might be ill-advised, but he must be respected. In a curious move, regular pilot Julien Leparoux rides elsewhere. Florent Geroux will have the call on HEART TO HEART for the first time.

#2 DIVISIDERO (9-2), who lures Leparoux, makes his first start since disappointing in the Arlington Million. This stone-cold closer typically runs longer than a mile but can certainly land a share here. His lone start at Keeneland to date was an allowance prep, in which he was nosed out of a win.

The play: $3 exacta 8/2,3,10, $3 win 3 ($12)

DFJ analysis: Julien Leparoux rides in seven of the 10 races at Keeneland this Saturday and has several live mounts. He rides three program favorites in non-stakes races and has three solid stakes mounts; Hawksmoor in the Grade I First Lady, Bourbon Resolution in the Grade I Breeders’ Futurity, and DIVISIDERO in the Shadwell Turf Mile.
