The Grade III, $200,000 Red Smith Handicap, a 1 3/8-mile turf event, is the Saturday feature at Aqueduct. A field of 12 has assembled for this heat, which goes as Race 8 on a nine-race program. Post time is estimated at 3:47 p.m. EST. As always, feel free to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!
#10 CALL PROVISION (5-1) gets the nod as the course and distance specialist. He’s 3-for-3 lifetime at Aqueduct and 4-3-1-0 at this tricky 1 3/8-miles distance. He’s yet to a win a stakes (0-for-4) but has ideal circumstances in front of him for a potential breakthrough. As usual, Irad Ortiz Jr. will be aboard for Chad Brown, who also entered MONEY MULTIPLIER.
#5 OSCAR NOMINATED (8-1) gets a noteworthy rider change to Jose Ortiz as he looks for his second win of the year in his ninth start. That 1-for-8 win percentage makes him tough to trust on top, but he has five ITM finishes to boast, all in stakes. He is much more versatile than his principle competition, so look for him to get first run at the leaders.
#3 GET JETS (6-1) and his ferocious late kick will be severely tested as he picks up another quarter-mile. He was last seen winning the 1 1/8-mile Ashley T. Cole Stakes by a nose over CALL PROVISION. GET JETS is a gamer, having never missed the exacta in six turf starts, but looks up against it from a pedigree perspective as he tries to get this distance. John Velazquez will be in the saddle.
#2 MONEY MULTIPLIER (5-2, morning-line favorite) flopped in Belmont’s Turf Classic Invitational but deserves attention in this softer spot. He already has two ITM performances in graded stakes this year, including a triumph in the Grade II Monmouth. In two Grade Is at this distance last year, MONEY MULTIPLIER hit the exacta. Javier Castellano remains in the irons.
The play: $4 exacta 10/2,3,5 ($12)
DFJ analysis: Irad Ortiz Jr. is poised for a strong Saturday in his first weekend at the Aqueduct meet. He gets a leg-up on two program favorites before riding CALL PROVISION in the Red Smith. Ortiz Jr. has a mount in seven of the day’s nine races.
