Stallwalkin’ Dude seeks another stakes score in Fall Highweight

Aqueduct’s traditional Thanksgiving feature, the Grade III, $200,000 Fall Highweight Handicap, takes place for the 104th time this Thursday. Nine sprinters will pack on the extra pounds as they take to the main track for this six furlong sprint. Post time for the Fall Highweight, the eighth of nine scheduled races, is 3:20 p.m. EST. Don’t forget to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

#3 STALLWALKIN’ DUDE (2-1, morning-line favorite) is looking for redemption after getting upset in this race last year. He’ll carry the same weight he did in 2016, a demanding 134 lbs. STALLWALKIN’ DUDE, one of two entered in the Fall Highweight by David Jacobson, hasn’t won a graded stake in over a year but has two stakes wins to his credit in 2017, both at today’s six-furlong distance. His last two speed figures, earned when placing in the Grade I Vosburgh and Grade III Bold Ruler, peg him as the one to beat. However, the excess weight he carries makes him vulnerable under Joe Bravo.

#1 GREAT STUFF (12-1), the other Jacobson entrant, cuts back off a strong one-mile allowance win. He’s won two of three starts this year, with his one loss due to a horrible break from the gate. He’ll carry just 125 lbs as the co-low weight of the field; Rajiv Maragh has the assignment.

#7 LIFE IN SHAMBLES (12-1) keeps Irad Ortiz Jr. as he steps off a convincing allowance win. His 5-2-2-0 record at Aqueduct makes him a must-use even though he’s never won a stake.

#6 GREEN GRATTO (8-1), who won the Fall Highweight in 2015, should find himself on or near the lead. He would greatly benefit from the expected scratch of #9 SEYMOURDINI, but will still have to deal with #2 HEY JABBER JAW. Some of GREEN GRATTO’s best career outings have come at Aqueduct, including his Grade I Carter win earlier this year.

The play: $2 exacta 1,3/1,3,6,7, $2 exacta box 1/3 ($16)

DFJ analysis: Irad Ortiz Jr. will be very busy at Aqueduct this Thanksgiving. He has a mount in the body of the field in eight of the day’s nine races. Of those eight assignments, all but one are single-digit odds, including Winter Memories Stakes favorite Rymska. Ortiz also rides live longshot LIFE IN SHAMBLES in the Fall Highweight, the day’s main event.
