Heart to Heart seeks elusive Grade I in Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap

The Grade I, $300,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap will take center stage on Gulfstream’s Saturday program. A field of eight grass greats will duke it out over nine furlongs in pursuit of Grade I glory. Post time for the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap, going as Race 9 of 12, is 4:10 p.m. EST. As always, be sure to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

#1 HEART TO HEART (5-2, morning-line favorite) has a good shot at his first Grade I win despite some hiccups in his last two starts. He found the Breeders’ Cup Mile competition too tough two-back before rearing at the start in last month’s Ft. Lauderdale. It didn’t help that Irad Ortiz Jr. wrangled HEART TO HEART back behind a slow pace after that tardy beginning. HEART TO HEART will be reunited with Julien Leparoux, who’s had success on this horse in the past. HEART TO HEART also shows two bullet workouts in preparation for this and should face little pressure up front, perhaps only from #2 ONE GO ALL GO. However, nine furlongs may be just beyond HEART TO HEART’s scope, and that could set things up for an upset.

#7 REVVED UP (15-1) is a longshot worth considering as he could receive a good setup if the pacesetters falter. He excelled at distances of nine furlongs and beyond in the latter part of 2017, winning two upper-level allowances at Saratoga and Churchill and taking third in the River City Handicap over a yielding surface last time out. REVVED UP’s best puts him right in the hunt and he’ll have Edgard Zayas aboard.

#2 ONE GO ALL GO (10-1) was only narrowly beaten in the Grade II Ft. Lauderdale last time out. However, the losses are starting to pile up, as he’s dropped nine straight starts. If ONE GO ALL GO runs back to his Ft. Lauderdale effort he should be in the hunt late, but it’s tough to endorse him on top. Regular pilot Chris Landeros has the call once more.

#5 MONEY MULTIPLIER (3-1) typically gets more ground to work with than this but he did win the Grade II Monmouth Stakes at 1 1/8-miles last year. However, this field looks a lot tougher than that one. Look for him to roll late under Javier Castellano for a share.

The play: $3 exacta 1/2,5,7, $3 win 7 ($12)

DFJ analysis: Edgard Zayas has some live mounts in the early part of the day that should carry him to a solid performance. His first four mounts are priced at 6-1 or below. Later on, he’ll ride live longshot REVVED UP in the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap.
