The Grade I, $300,000 Coaching Club American Oaks in the feature on Sunday at Saratoga. Just five will line up for this year’s rendition, but it won’t be short on drama. Kentucky Oaks winner MONOMOY GIRL rematches with the third-place runner from that race, MIDNIGHT BISOU. The 1 1/8-mile CCA Oaks will be run as Race 9 of 10; approximate post time is 5:40 p.m. EST. As always, be sure to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!
#4 MONOMOY GIRL (4-5, morning-line favorite) rides a four-race win streak into the CCA Oaks. Three of those victories came in Grade Is, including the Kentucky Oaks and Belmont’s Acorn Stakes last time out. She’s a stand-out on speed figures and Florent Geroux will be aboard once more. There’s no sense in trying to beat the favorite in this one.
#2 MIDNIGHT BISOU (7-5) has won four of five in 2018, with her only blemish being a third in the Kentucky Oaks. She aced her first start for Steve Asmussen in the Mother Goose when last seen. MIDNIGHT BISOU will stretch back out to 1 1/8-miles, where she lost her only start this year; that could be a problem as she looks to turn the tables on MONOMOY GIRL. Mike Smith ships in for the assignment.
#5 GIO GAME (10-1) was no match for MONOMOY GIRL in the Acorn but managed a third-place finish. Her other results on dirt this year were a win over a next-out victor and a runner-up placing. GIO GAME has drilled sharply for the CCA Oaks for Mark Casse, who keeps Julien Leparoux in the irons.
The play: $10 exacta 4/2
DFJ analysis: It should be another fine Sunday for Irad Ortiz Jr. He rides in nine of the day’s 10 races, and while he’s on a longshot (CHOCOLATE MARTINI) in the CCA Oaks, his remaining mounts are all single-digit odds. Five of those eight additional assignments are either the morning-line favorite or the second-choice.
