‘Dream’ on in Arlington Million

One of the country’s most important turf races, the Grade I Arlington Million, takes place this Saturday. A field of 11 will line up at Arlington Park for the 1 1/4-mile event. Post time for the 36th running of the Million is 7:08 p.m. EST. It will go as the 11th of 12 races. Several noteworthy jockeys will make the journey, so study carefully if taking part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!

#5 CENTURY DREAM (12-1) is an intriguing value play in the Arlington Million. He’s developed nicely at four, taking the Group III Diomed Stakes while finishing a close fourth in the Group I Queen Anne two-back. The distance could be a problem for this frequent miler, but CENTURY DREAM does have a win in four starts at 1 1/4-miles. He’ll add Lasix and switch back to regular rider William Buick. Toss his last effort as he was asked for too much too soon. CENTURY DREAM will likely race in mid-division before pouncing in the lane.

#10 ROBERT BRUCE (9-2) was probably best in the Grade I Manhattan last time out but was stuck in traffic for the entire stretch. Chad Brown, who sends three out in the Million, decided to switch to Irad Ortiz Jr. on ROBERT BRUCE, which looks like a wise move. The previously-undefeated colt should have no problem negotiating the distance; he just needs to find room late.

#11 OSCAR PERFORMANCE (3-1, morning-line favorite) was dealt a miserable post for his front-running tactics, but he’ll have the entire length of the stretch to cross over under Jose Ortiz. His 2018 bow was a dandy, as he set a course record in the one-mile Poker at Belmont. However, he sat back behind a wicked early tempo and capitalized late. Ortiz has been rounding into form at Saratoga, so if he can make some wise early moves on OSCAR PERFORMANCE, he can get the job done on the Arlington Million favorite. It’s worth noting that OSCAR PERFORMANCE won the Grade I Secretariat over this course last year and is 2-for-2 at today’s distance. Still, OSCAR PERFORMANCE’s career lines are a bit inconsistent, and he could get overbet, which makes him an underneath selection.

The play: $2 exacta box 5/10/11, $4 win 5 ($16)

DFJ analysis: Irad Ortiz Jr. has just four mounts at Arlington on Saturday but they’re of high quality. His big three are Untamed Domain (5-1) in the Secretariat, Fourstar Crook (9-2) in the Beverly D., and ROBERT BRUCE (9-2) in the Million.
