The Grade I, $800,000 Woodbine Mile anchors a big Saturday program at Woodbine racecourse. The illustrious turf event attracted a field of nine. Post time for the Woodbine Mile, Race 8 of 12 on the day, is 4:48 p.m. EST. In addition to watching and wagering, feel free to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!
#3 DELTA PRINCE (5-2, morning-line favorite) has had a brilliant beginning to his 2018 campaign. He took the Grade II King Edward over this course two starts ago before missing the win in the Fourstardave by a neck last time out. DELTA PRINCE likes to come from just off the pace, so he should get a good setup on Saturday based on his competition’s running lines. The tune-up works are sharp and Javier Castellano maintains the assignment.
#6 LORD GLITTERS (4-1) broke through for a Group III win at York last time out after settling for a minor award in his first four starts of the year. That included two Group Is. Jamie Spencer must ensure LORD GLITTERS breaks well; if he does, he’ll be very dangerous in the Woodbine Mile.
#5 MR HAVERCAMP (6-1) showed he wasn’t just the best of the Ontario-breds when he aced the Grade II Play The King Stakes last time out. That yielding-turf win ran his Woodbine record up to a perfect 4-for-4. He’ll have to repeat that effort on a firm course while stretching back out, but Eurico Rosa da Silva has the call once more.
#2 LA SARDANE (15-1) is the lone filly in the field. She may not have cared for the conditions in the Play The King, but prior to that start she had won three straight against restricted company. If Rafael Bejarano can ration her speed, LA SARDANE may hit the ticket at a big price.
The play: $4 exacta 3/6, $2 exacta 3/2,5, $2 exacta 6/3 ($10)
DFJ analysis: Javier Castellano has a solid roster of talented runners lined up for Saturday. Four of his six mounts are 7-2 or less, including favored DELTA PRINCE in the Woodbine Mile. New Money Honey (5-2) gives him a shot at a stakes double in the Grade II Canadian. Castellano has been riding hot at Belmont, so he’s hard to ignore this weekend.
