The Grade I, $400,000 Beldame Stakes is the feature at Belmont Park this Saturday. Eight distaffers will do battle over 1 1/8-miles on the main track. Post time for the Beldame, Race 8 of 11 on the day, is 4:25 p.m. EST. In addition to watching and wagering, be sure to check out FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!
#4 COME DANCING (6-1) won the Royal Delta by over six lengths on this course last time out. The muddy-track romp was her first ever route race, and she passed the test with flying colors. COME DANCING went to the lead in that heat but has won from off the pace before. The well-bred daughter of Malibu Moon is 4-for-6 lifetime, so she has a nose for the wire. She takes a sizeable step up in class but it looks like she can handle these. The price is more than fair as Irad Ortiz Jr. climbs back aboard.
#6 WOW CAT (5-2, morning-line favorite) was a perfect 8-for-8 in her native Chile before taking two losses at Saratoga. She got close but couldn’t catch #8 FARRELL in the Shuvee, then was buried in the Personal Ensign by Abel Tasman and Elate. WOW CAT gets effective class relief today and switches to Jose Ortiz; she’s the logical alternative.
#1 DREAMCALL (12-1) could pick up the pieces if they really fly up front. #3 DIVINE MISS GREY will almost surely vie for the lead along with FARRELL from the outside gate. COME DANCING also possesses some early foot. DREAMCALL reeled off three straight wins, albeit over much lesser, before closing to be a game second in the Molly Pitcher two-back. She may not have cared for the off-track in the Royal Delta last time out. Joel Rosario will try to save ground and rally for a piece with this one.
The play: $2 exacta 4/1,6, $2 exacta box 4/6, $4 win 4 ($12)
DFJ analysis: Irad Ortiz Jr. rides in 10 of the day’s 11 races, and has some quality mounts lined up. Just one of his assignments is above 6-1 on the morning-line. He kicks off the stakes portion of the program with favored Disco Partner in the Turf Sprint Invitational. Then Ortiz Jr. rides COME DANCING in the Beldame, followed by March to the Arch (4-1) in the Hill Prince and Call Paul (4-1) in the Champagne.
