The Grade III, $150,000 Marshua’s River Stakes is Gulfstream Park’s Saturday feature. The 1 1/16th-mile grass event for older fillies and mares drew a field of eight and goes as the 11th of 12 races. Estimated post time is 4:47 p.m. EST. As always, feel free to take part in FanXT’s Daily Fantasy Jockey game!
#3 BOMBSHELL (6-1) was last seen taking Aqueduct’s off-the-turf Forever Together Stakes on Thanksgiving weekend. But the daughter of Bellamy Road is no turf tenderfoot, as she won two of her last three starts on the lawn prior to that effort, both at Delaware Park. A narrowly-beaten third-place result in Mountaineer’s West Virginia President’s Cup was sandwiched in between. It’s encouraging that Gulfstream’s leading jockey, Luis Saez, is taking the call for trainer Arnaud Delacour, who picks his spots very well when shipping in.
#4 VALEDICTORIAN (6-1) nearly won the Claiming Crown Tiara over this course last month but was caught late by Peru. Two-back, she was a stakes winner in Laurel’s All Along. She usually does her running up front, but she may have to pay a steep price with the comebacking LA SIGNARE in the race. Nevertheless, based on speed figures, VALEDICTORIAN figures to land a share. Tyler Gaffalione has the call.
#7 LA SIGNARE (3-1, morning-line favorite) wired the competition in the Wonder Again two-back before something obviously went amiss in the Belmont Oaks, where she checked in last. The lightly-raced four-year-old is training well for her return for Brian Lynch, who names Jose Ortiz to ride. What she spots in seasoning and freshness she could make up for in talent, but LA SIGNARE may not be worth the bet at 3-1 or less.
The play: $10 win 3
DFJ analysis: There’s a case to be made for several jockeys at Gulfstream this Saturday, but Tyler Gaffalione stands out as the best option. In addition to VALEDICTORIAN, he rides in eight additional races. All but one of those mounts are single-digits on the morning-line. Vici (9-2) gives Gaffalione a good shot at nabbing the day’s other stake, the Tropical Turf (Race 9).
