Man o’ War day at Belmont Park features four stakes races in addition to the main event, which is discussed here. We’ll go over a pair of those undercard races below.
Belmont Race 4 (Post time: 3:08 p.m. Eastern)
The Grade III, $300,000 Peter Pan Stakes
1 1/8-miles on dirt
#1 INTREPID HEART (7-5, morning-line favorite) can boost his lifetime record to 3-for-3 with a victory in the Peter Pan. He won his career debut at Oaklawn with devastating ease before grinding out a score going 1 1/16th-miles at Keeneland in his first try against winners. John Velazquez, a keen judge of pace, will have the call for the third straight time on INTREPID HEART for Todd Pletcher.
#3 GLOBAL CAMPAIGN (8-5) is a logical alternative dropping out of the Fountain of Youth, where he was too close to a pace meltdown. He won by open lengths in his first two efforts at Gulfstream earlier this year, posting solid speed figures. Luis Saez rides the potential pacesetter in the Peter Pan.
The play: $5 exacta box 1/3 ($10)
Belmont Race 7 (Post time: 4:45 p.m. Eastern)
The Grade III, $200,000 Beaugay Stakes
1 1/16th-miles on turf
#5 HOMERIQUE (9-5), a Group 3 stakes winner and Group 1 placed in 2018, makes her stateside and seasonal debut for Chad Brown in the Beaugay. She was last seen running third in the prestigious Prix de l’Opera, just a nose behind Man o’ War contender Magic Wand. HOMERIQUE has been very fast in the mornings in preparation for this and lures Irad Ortiz Jr.
#3 COMPETITIONOFIDEAS (7-5, morning-line favorite) took to the 1 1/4-mile distance of the American Oaks with aplomb at Santa Anita on Dec. 29, but that was her last race to date. However, she’s a perfect 2-for-2 at this course and distance. Joel Rosario rides the stablemate of the top pick in the Beaugay.
The play: $4 exacta box 3/5, $2 exacta 5/3 ($10)
