The $750,000 Tourist Mile is the feature on the opening Saturday of the lucrative Kentucky Downs meeting. A field of 14 (including two also-eligibles) will battle it out on a European-style turf course. Post time for the Tourist, Race 8 of 10 on the day, is 5:11 p.m. ET.
#1 SNAPPER SINCLAIR (8-1) switches back to turf after campaigning on dirt for nearly a year for trainer Steve Asmussen. He’s won twice this year and was last seen running third in a stakes race at Mountaineer. SNAPPER SINCLAIR has a 4-2-0-0 record on the grass, including a win over this course as a juvenile. Former Kentucky Downs meet champion Julien Leparoux has the call on the son of City Zip.
#4 HEMBREE (4-1) drops out of the Fourstardave after an uncharacteristic off-the-board finish. He owns a 6-1-3-0 record in 2019. HEMBREE’s speed figures are competitive and he lures Tyler Gaffalione for the Tourist Mile. He’s one of a few potential candidates to sweep by the tiring leaders in what looks like a race that could feature a pace meltdown.
#9 MR CUB (8-1) rolled by SIEM RIEP in the Tourist Mile preview at Ellis Park last time out. That was his first start since finishing second behind HEMBREE in the El Prado Stakes at Gulfstream back in February. MR CUB owns a solid 7-4-1-0 record at the one-mile distance. Brian Hernandez Jr. will be aboard.
#11 REAL STORY (10-1) moves up if there’s a scratch. He is one of several who will be looking for the lead, but based on speed figures, he could still hang around late for a share. REAL STORY, who will be ridden by Joe Bravo, has two stakes wins to his name, including the Warrior Veterans at Indiana Grand last time out.
The play: $1 exacta box 1/4/9, $4 win 1 ($10)
