Got Stormy’s momentum should roll on in Woodbine Mile

The Grade I, $1 million Woodbine Mile anchors the Saturday card at Canada’s Woodbine racecourse. A field of 11, led by Fourstardave winner GOT STORMY (a filly), will line up at the gate for the richest race of the weekend. Post time for the prestigious turf heat, Race 9 of 12 on the day, is 5:42 p.m. ET.

#5 GOT STORMY (8-5, morning-line favorite) posted one of the more memorable wins at Saratoga this summer when she took the Grade I Fourstardave Handicap going away. It was especially impressive off just one week’s rest following a blowout victory in the De La Rose. GOT STORMY certainly has a nose for the wire (7-for-15 lifetime) and scored in her only career start at Woodbine in last year’s Grade III Ontario Colleen going one mile. She will once again have the services of jockey Tyler Gaffalione in the Woodbine Mile.

#4 SYNCHRONY (6-1) was last seen flying home for the score in the King Edward Stakes over this course. That was his second stakes score of the year following his Fair Grounds Handicap victory back in February. SYNCHRONY would benefit from a pace meltdown in the Woodbine Mile, but that does not appear to be in store. Flavien Prat will have the call.

#2 LUCULLAN (8-1) steps up off his first career stakes victory in Saratoga’s Lure last month. The son of Hard Spun is now 2-for-2 off a very lengthy layoff. LUCULLAN could be sitting on a career-best performance, which would help him hit the ticket. Luis Saez will be aboard.

#6 AWESOMETANK (8-1) was a decent second in the Beverly D at Arlington last month behind the classy Sistercharlie. A repeat of her most recent speed figure would be good enough for her to land a share. John Egan will unite with AWESOMETANK, the “other” filly in the Woodbine Mile.

#3 SILENT POET (15-1) aced the local prep for the Woodbine Mile, the Play the King Stakes, when last seen. He’s a little light in the speed figure department but has never missed the exacta in seven starts over this course (7-5-2-0). Gary Boulanger maintains the assignment.

The play: $4 exacta 5/2,4, $2 exacta 5/3,6, $2 exacta 2,4/5 ($16)
