Curlin’s Honor can spring upset in Artie Schiller

The $150,000 Artie Schiller Stakes anchors Saturday’s card at Aqueduct. “The Big A” feature drew a field of 10 plus three MTOs. Post time for the Artie Schiller, a one-mile turf test, is 3:20 p.m. ET. It goes as the eighth of a scheduled 10 races.

#5 CURLIN’S HONOR (10-1) should get the perfect setup in the Artie Schiller and has both the class and speed figures to compete with these. He was last seen dusting allowance/optional claiming foes at Woodbine but was competing at the highest echelon of racing at that oval over the summer. CURLIN’S HONOR hit the board in five straight graded stakes at Woodbine between May and September, which included a fine runner-up effort in the Grade II King Edward at one mile behind Synchrony. Joel Rosario should have this Mark Casse trainee well off a projected fast pace featuring ABIDING STAR, VOODOO SONG, DR. EDGAR and GIDU.

#8 CARIBOU CLUB (5-2, morning-line favorite) rallied for a narrow score in the Grade III Baltimore-Washington Turf Cup at Laurel over #1 FRONTIER MARKET (3-1) last time out. He wound up in this easier spot after being entered in but relegated to the AE list and eventually scratched out of last week’s Breeders’ Cup Mile. CARIBOU CLUB, a multiple graded stakes winner, retains Feargal Lynch.

FRONTIER MARKET bring an intimidating 6-3-3-0 record at a mile on turf into the Artie Schiller. Chad Brown and Irad Ortiz Jr. team up with this son of Lemon Drop Kid, who seeks his first career stakes score.

#9 DR. EDGAR (6-1) is the best bet of the aforementioned probable pacemakers to last for a share simply because he’s shown an ability to stalk and score in the past. Gulfstream’s Grade III Appleton winner from earlier this year has Dylan Davis aboard once more.

The play: $2 exacta key box 5/1,8, $1 exacta box 5/9 ($10)
