Saturday’s $75,000 Sunshine Forever at Gulfstream Park is America’s lone stakes race of the afternoon. Not surprisingly, the 1 1/16th-mile grass event drew a full field of 12 (including one MTO) that includes a pair of former Grade I winners in EL TORMENTA and WAR OF WILL. Post time for the Sunshine Forever, the ninth of 12 races on Saturday at Gulfstream, is 4:59 p.m. ET.
#6 HALLADAY (4-1) could have things all his own way up front in the Sunshine Forever. #3 EL TORMENTA and #12 WAR OF WILL tend to be forwardly-placed, but the former sheds blinkers while the latter must overcome the far outside post. However, HALLADAY can stalk if necessary, so that gives Luis Saez tactical options. The Todd Pletcher trainee is a perfect 2-for-2 at Gulfstream, including his victory in the Tropical Park Derby late last year. HALLADAY should prove best in the Sunshine Forever.
#9 SOCIAL PARANOIA (3-1), stablemate to the top choice, also has a strong case in the Sunshine Forever. He picked up the pieces in Gulfstream’s Grade III Appleton for his first graded stakes victory last time out. Prior to that, SOCIAL PARANOIA triumphed in September’s Dueling Grounds Derby at Kentucky Downs. However, Edgard Zayas gets the leg-up on SOCIAL PARANOIA, not Saez nor one of Pletcher’s other go-to riders. That’s a discouraging sign.
#11 ADMISSION OFFICE (5-2, morning-line favorite) comes up short far too often to endorse on top but frequently closes well late for pieces, as he did in the Grade II Mac Diarmida over this course last time out. The cutback may aid his chances, but a potentially controlled pace would hinder him. Joel Rosario has the call on the son of Point of Entry.
The play: $5 exacta 6/9,11 ($10)
