Gulfstream Park offers a trio of intriguing stakes races this Saturday. The most lucrative one is the $100,000 Musical Romance for Florida-bred fillies and mares, which goes as Race 10 on an 11-race program. Our previews and advice for each heat are below.
Gulfstream Race 6 (Post time: 3:16 p.m. ET)
The $75,000 Roar Stakes
6 1/2-furlongs on dirt
#5 GREEN LIGHT GO (6-5, morning-line favorite) could be heavily-favored under Luis Saez come post time, but perhaps not deservedly so. He failed to build on his two-year-old form (2019 Saratoga Special winner) when buried by Mischevious Alex in the Swale last time out.
#3 DOUBLE CROWN (6-1) posted a big speed figure in his successful debut before placing in a sloppy allowance at Gulfstream. He still has room to improve under Christian Torres.
The play: $5 exacta box 3/5 ($10)
Gulfstream Race 9 (Post time: 4:52 p.m. ET)
The $75,000 Powder Break Stakes
One mile on turf
#10 GOT STORMY (9-5, morning-line favorite) drops in class following a game runner-up effort in the Kilroe Mile, but she’ll encounter a tough field nonetheless under Saez.
#7 VALIANCE (6-1) rates the best upset chance despite not having raced since June. She’s 3-for-3 lifetime, all on turf, for trainer Todd Pletcher. VALIANCE is working well for her return and retains Nik Juarez.
The play: $5 exacta box 7/10 ($10)
Gulfstream Race 10 (Post time: 5:24 p.m. ET)
The $100,000 Musical Romance Stakes
The speedy #7 LADY’S ISLAND (7-5, morning-line favorite) will try to make every pole a winning one under Emisael Jaramillo. But she’ll have plenty of company with #1 LIZA STAR, #4 TWO SIXTY, #9 J P’S DELIGHT all fleet of foot early. LADY’S ISLAND, despite her 9-6-2-1 record at Gulfstream, was caught in this race last year.
#2 BELLERA (4-1) and #3 WILDWOOD’S BEAUTY (7-2) are her main opponents. The former cuts back after taking the nine-furlong Ladies’ Handicap at Aqueduct last time out. Her late kick could be sharpened as a result for Saez.
The latter was second in both the Hurricane Bertie and Inside Information over this course in 2020. Irad Ortiz Jr. has the call.
The play: $6 exacta 7/2, $4 exacta 2/7, $4 exacta 7/3, $2 exacta 3/7, $2 exacta box 2/3 ($20)
