Uni looks best in Just A Game

The Grade I, $250,000 Just A Game Stakes anchors Saturday’s action at Belmont Park. The one-mile grass event for fillies and mares drew a solid field of seven. Post time for the Just A Game, Race 10 on an 11-race program that features three additional graded stakes, is 6:08 p.m. ET.

#6 UNI (7-5, morning-line favorite) looks like the class of the Just A Game based on her Breeders’ Cup Mile victory last time out. That effort is backed up by a Grade I First Lady strike at Keeneland. UNI won both her comeback races in 2018 and 2019, and although this is a tougher spot, she’s clearly the one to beat on speed figures. Her 4-3-0-1 record at Belmont is imposing as well, and Joel Rosario will be aboard.

#1 BEAU RECALL (10-1) had a nightmarish trip in her return to the races at Churchill Downs. She never found room in the lane in the Grade III Mint Julep under Shaun Bridgmohan. But BEAU RECALL had hit the exacta in six straight races (including two Grade II scores) prior to that start. Jose Ortiz, who has won on this Brad Cox trainee before, is back in the irons. The value is certainly there.

#5 REGAL GLORY (10-1) won three stakes races last year and is a potential value play underneath. #4 NEWSPAPEROFRECORD (8-5) could be an underlay if the turf course comes up firm, as all four of her career victories have come on yielding ground. Manny Franco and Irad Ortiz Jr. are the respective riders.

The play: $4 exacta 6/1,5, $2 win 1 ($10)
