In addition to the Grade I Whitney, Saratoga has carded four additional stakes races – two of which also hold Grade I status – this Saturday. We’ll take a look at two of those supporting stakes on their 12-race program below.
Saratoga Race 10 (Post time: 6:18 p.m. ET)
The Grade I, $300,000 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes
Seven furlongs on dirt
#6 NO PAROLE (9-5, morning-line favorite) makes plenty of sense in the H. Allen Jerkens as he won the Grade I Woody Stephens at Belmont by open lengths over a trio of today’s rivals. He’ll also retain Luis Saez on Saturday. However, NO PAROLE may not be worth the price at post time.
#8 THREE TECHNIQUE (6-1) could improve off a freshening while cutting back in distance in this spot. A combination of wet tracks and longer distances may have sunk THREE TECHNIQUE at Oaklawn over the winter. He should get a fast track at Saratoga on Saturday and is a perfect 2-for-2 going seven panels. It’s also worth noting that he broke his maiden here. Jose Ortiz rides.
The play: $3 exacta box 6/8, $4 win 8 ($10)
Saratoga Race 12 (Post time: 7:22 p.m. ET)
The $200,000 Caress Stakes
5 1/2-furlongs on turf
#7 DALIKA (3-1, morning-line favorite) was installed as the favorite in the Caress despite losing to #2 I’LLHANDALTHECASH (4-1) in the License Fee Stakes down at Belmont last time out. However, the latter had the far easier trip that day. DALIKA has showed improved closing kick since cutting back to sprints two starts ago – an easy allowance win at Churchill. She drilled a bullet going into this, a noticeable improvement over her typically pedestrian works. High-percentage connections in trainer Al Stall and jockey Joel Rosario will team up on DALIKA once more.
I’LLHANDALTHECASH is a logical horse to include underneath, as is class-jumper #9 CARIBA (9-2). Her most recent allowance effort going six panels on turf at Belmont was eye-catching. Irad Ortiz Jr. climbs aboard for Christophe Clement.
The play: $5 exacta 7/2,9 ($10)
