The Grade II, $600,000 Blue Grass Stakes is this Saturday’s feature at Keeneland. The 1 1/8-mile event for three-year-olds drew a field of 13. Most prominent among them is #7 SWISS SKYDIVER, the multiple graded stakes winning filly. Post time for the Blue Grass Stakes, Race 9 on a 10-race program, is 5:30 p.m. ET.
#3 ART COLLECTOR (5-1) will be the top selection here. He was last seen acing a high-level allowance/optional claiming event at Churchill that included next-out Indiana Derby winner Shared Sense. ART COLLECTOR has won three straight races at various distances and conditions, from on and off the pace. He’ll be asked to go just a half-furlong further in the Blue Grass, which should pose no problem for the son of Bernardini. Brian Hernandez Jr. maintains the assignment in ART COLLECTOR’s stakes debut.
#7 SWISS SKYDIVER (3-1, morning-line favorite) beat some of the best in her division – including Ashland Stakes contenders Venetian Harbor, Tonalist’s Shape and Speech – earlier this year during a three-race win streak, all graded stakes. She certainly fits with the boys on speed figures. However, SWISS SKYDIVER figures to get overbet. It will be interesting to see how she fares under Mike Smith on Saturday.
#10 RUSHIE (5-1) made his stakes debut in the Santa Anita Derby last month and was a respectable third behind Honor A. P. and Authentic in what was a highly-rated result. He’s training well for Michael McCarthy, and Javier Castellano sees fit to take the call. RUSHIE could work out the ideal stalking trip in the Blue Grass.
The play: $5 exacta box 3/7, $2 exacta 3,7/10, $1 exacta box 3/7/10 ($20)
