The Grade I, $400,000 Fourstardave Handicap is Saturday’s spotlight race at Saratoga. The prestigious one-mile turf heat drew an accomplished field of nine, led by last year’s winner GOT STORMY, defending Breeders’ Cup Mile winner UNI, and multiple Grade I winner RAGING BULL. Post time for the Fourstardave, the ninth of 10 races on Saturday at “The Spa,” is 5:46 p.m. ET.
#6 UNI (3-1) was last seen placing third in the Grade I Just A Game at Belmont. However, she had a legitimate excuse for not cashing in as the favorite that day. She hadn’t raced in over six months and attempted to close into a glacial pace. UNI has an impressive 9-7-0-2 record in one-mile turf races and is 3-1-1-1 all-time over the Saratoga lawn. She should be rolling late in the Fourstardave under Jose Ortiz.
#5 HALLADAY (4-1) had a two-race win streak snapped in the Grade II Bernard Baruch last time out. Strangely, he did not go out to the lead and stalked a slow pace set by Somelikeithotbrown, the eventual winner. Bettors should expect Luis Saez to seize command of the Fourstardave with HALLADAY and try to wire the field. We’ll see if he’s classy enough to hold off the closers on Saturday and post his first Grade I victory.
#1 RAGING BULL (5-2, morning-line favorite) ran huge in the Shoemaker Mile off a layoff two-back, partially because of the ideal setup he received, before settling for third in the Maker’s Mark Mile last time out. This Chad Brown trainee is 3-2-1-0 all-time at Saratoga, so he shouldn’t be taken lightly here. RAGING BULL was Joel Rosario’s choice in this event.
The play: $5 exacta 6/1,5 ($10)
