In addition to the Grade I, $1 million Travers Stakes, there are 11 races – including four stakes – to dive into. We’ll take a look at a couple of these events below.
Saratoga Race 3 (Post time: 1:15 p.m. ET)
$64,000 Filly & Mare NY-bred Allowance
5 1/2-furlongs on turf
#9 LIGHT IN THE SKY (6-5, morning-line favorite) looks like the best bet of the day on the Travers undercard. She’s been a game second in each of her last two turf sprint tries, the most recent one occurring at Saratoga. LIGHT IN THE SKY had to overcome a seven-wide trip two-back before stumbling at the start last time out. Despite that stumble, #12 SARATOGA LOVE (7-2) finished three lengths behind her.
#4 AVA K’S GIRL (5-1) looks like the right horse to use underneath, though she too finished three lengths behind the top choice in their most recent meeting on June 20. Her fourth-place finish that day came off an extended layoff. AVA K’S GIRL’s most recent effort going long should be disregarded.
SARATOGA LOVE could land a share if she draws in the also-eligible list.
The play: $5 exacta 9/4,12 ($10)
Saratoga Race 9 (Post time: 5:02 p.m. ET)
The Grade III $150,000 Waya Stakes
1 1/2-miles on turf
#5 OLYMPIC GAMES (4-1) looks like a decent value play in the Waya Stakes. After just being edged out in her stateside debut going shorter, OLYMPIC GAMES was a game second despite a wide trip upon stretching out to today’s distance in the River Memories at Belmont last month. Trainer Christophe Clement has had a hot hand at the meet, and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr likewise.
The play: $10 win 5
