Pimlico has an all-stakes program going on Saturday, Preakness Stakes Day. We’ll take a look at two of the undercard events below, including the corresponding event for three-year-old fillies, the Grade II Black-Eyed Susan Stakes.
Pimlico Race 8 (Post time: 3:22 p.m. ET)
The $150,000 Laurel Futurity Stakes
1/16th-miles on turf
#2 NO ONE TO BLAME (15-1) did not fare well in his debut effort going five furlongs but turned things around nicely with a romp in a one-mile maiden event last time out. He steps up in the Laurel Futurity, as most of these do, but also has a lack of turf experience to overcome.
However, NO ONE TO BLAME gets turf influence from both sides (Blame on top, War Chant on the bottom), was turf-meant in his maiden score, and works well over synthetic, all of which suggests he’ll like the lawn at longshot odds. Keiber Coa has the call once more.
The play: $10 win 2
Pimlico Race 10 (Post time: 4:41 p.m. ET)
The Grade II, $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes
1 1/8-miles on dirt
#5 BONNY SOUTH drops into the Black-Eyed Susan off a respectable second-place effort in the Grade I Alabama behind Swiss Skydiver. Based on speed figures, she’s far superior to this group. It’s hard to see BONNY SOUTH losing at odds-on in the Black-Eyed Susan under Florent Geroux.
#8 HOPEFUL GROWTH found the Kentucky Oaks competition far too tough last time out. However, her Monmouth Oaks score two-back was solid and gives her a shot at second in the Black-Eyed Susan. HOPEFUL GROWTH will be reunited with Trevor McCarthy.
#3 SO DARN HOT (6-1) could run into the exacta if she replicates her most recent race on fast dirt – a six-length romp at Belmont. Toss her latest try in the mud at Delaware. SO DARN HOT will have Gabriel Saez in the irons.
The play: $5 exacta 5/3,8 ($10)
