Remsen, Demoiselle top Cigar Mile undercard

In addition to the Grade I, $250,000 Cigar Mile, Aqueduct has carded three additional graded stakes for Saturday. We’ll preview a pair of them below.

Aqueduct Race 4 (Post time: 1 p.m. ET)

The Grade II $150,000 Remsen Stakes

1 1/8-miles on dirt

#1 PICKIN’ TIME (5-2) appears to be offering value on the win end in this short field. He was last seen pulling away late to score in the Grade III Nashua Stakes over this course. Settling for second that day was #5 TEN FOR TEN, who also resurfaces in the Remsen.

PICKIN’ TIME should handle the distance and drilled sharply for this for Kelly Breen. Jose Lezcano has the call.

The play: $10 win 1

Aqueduct Race 9 (Post time: 3:44 p.m. ET)

The Grade II $150,000 Demoiselle Stakes

1 1/8-miles on dirt

#1 MALATHAAT (4-5, morning-line favorite) is likely to be a short price in Saturday’s Demoiselle, and deservedly so. The $1.05 million daughter of Curlin scored by nearly eight lengths when last seen in Aqueduct’s Tempted Stakes. She’s training steadily for Todd Pletcher, who names go-to jockey John Velazquez to ride. MALATHAAT seems very difficult to beat in this spot.

#3 MILLEFEUILLE (7-2), #4 MALIBU CURL, and #6 CAFE SOCIETY (6-1) should figure into any exotic plays.

MILLEFEUILLE looked sharp in graduating second-time out for Bill Mott and Joel Rosario.

MALIBU CURLIN recorded a strong speed figure in her maiden breaker at Saratoga. Being by Curlin, she should handle the stretchout from seven panels to nine under Junior Alvarado.

CAFE SOCIETY was well-beaten by the top choice in the Tempted but could make up some ground on MALATHAAT with an extra furlong to work with. Jose Ortiz has the call.

The play: $2 trifecta 1/3,4,6/3,4,6 ($12)
