The Grade II, $200,000 Buena Vista Stakes is the Saturday feature at Santa Anita. The one-mile turf clash for older fillies and mares drew a well-matched field of 10. That includes consecutive Grade III victress #2 MUCHO UNUSUAL.
Post time for the Buena Vista, the seventh of nine races on the day at Santa Anita, is 6:46 p.m. ET.
#6 SEDAMAR (8-1) is capable of springing the upset in the Buena Vista on Saturday. She was last seen closing for second against a slow pace in a four-horse Megahertz Stakes last time out, which was won by the ideally-placed MUCHO UNUSUAL (7-2). It was her third second-place effort in five tries since jumping into stakes company.
Horses like SEDAMAR typically profile as bad bets on the win end, but she might be an exception here. SEDAMAR has been involved in several races with short fields, leading to tepid paces. With nine rivals entered in the Buena Vista, including sprint-types #1 BOHEMIAN BOURBON and #8 CHARMAINE’S MIA, this daughter of Richard’s Kid should get an honest tempo to close into. SEDAMAR will be ridden by Ruben Fuentes.
MUCHO UNUSUAL must be respected based on her recent record. She’s won three of her last four races, all graded stakes. However, the Tim Yakteen trainee has benefitted from attending slow paces of late. She may not get an ideal setup in the Buena Vista under Abel Cedillo.
#3 WARREN’S SHOWTIME (5-1) should be rolling late for a share. She’s hit the board in each of her last five stakes tries on grass. WARREN’S SHOWTIME also sports a 7-4-0-3 record at Santa Anita. Juan Hernandez remains aboard.
The play: $5 win/place 6 ($10)
